A proven metric, but an outdated concept
Traditional lactate profile testing was developed decades ago to find thresholds and create training zones. Today athletes can get their thresholds and standard training zones with sufficient accuracy from DIY solutions like FTP testing. On the other hand: the science about lactate has developed substantially, identifying it as a center molecule of metabolism. Used in the right way, lactate testing unlocks a whole new world of performance assessment.
A shift of the lactate curve might not be improved performance
Lactate concentration is not only influenced by speed or power, but also by lactate production, lactate clearance, body composition, and economy. This means that a simple left/right shift of a lactate curve cannot be clearly attributed to one single cause, like increased aerobic or endurance capacity. The reasons could be manyfold, the effects of different influencers can cancel each other out.
Decipher an athlete’s physiology, from a simple lactate curve
Because the lactate profile is the result of several different physiological systems interacting, INSCYD can use advanced physiological analysis to reverse engineer the complete physiological profile of an athlete.
