The 2-day workshop combines theory and practice of muscular energy metabolism, explains how metabolic pathways create and influence athletic performance, and provides hands-on training in testing protocols, data analysis, and interpretation across different athlete profiles.
- Understanding how metabolic systems interact to create athletic performance
- Benchmarking key metabolic systems and their performance relevance
- Hands-on practical testing sessions
- Learn how to measure lactate, VOâ‚‚, and body composition
- Evaluation, reporting, and interactive case examples illustrating metabolic interactions

Understanding How Performance Is Created
Athletic performance is complex.
It is created by the interaction of multiple physiological and metabolic systems — not by a single metric.
Traditional performance testing often focuses on isolated values such as a threshold or VOâ‚‚max.
These metrics typically remain separated in silos, without a causal connection that explains how physiological systems interact to create performance.
Performance Optimization Diagnostics addresses this gap by shifting the focus from isolated metrics to physiological interaction.
In this workshop, you learn how aerobic, glycolytic, fat, and carbohydrate metabolism interact with factors such as economy, buffering capacity, and body composition — and how this interaction enables or limits performance.
What you will learn
This intensive 2-day workshop combines theory with extensive hands-on practice to deliver:
A practice-oriented understanding of muscular energy metabolism,
covering glycolysis, aerobic metabolism, MLSS, fat and carbohydrate oxidation, buffering capacity, and movement economy — taught exclusively from a performance-relevant perspective, without unnecessary biochemical theory overload.
How metabolic systems interact to create performance,
including eye-opening connections between glycolysis and fat metabolism, lactate and VOâ‚‚, aerobic and anaerobic contribution, and their combined effect on performance outcomes.
How different physiological profiles shape performance,
by interactively exploring real-world scenarios such as glycolytically dominant or aerobically dominant athletes. You will use interactive tools to build and explore physiological avatars by yourself.
Performance diagnostics in practice,
including hands-on experience with lactate testing, body composition assessment, and VOâ‚‚ measurement, and understanding which data are required to describe physiological interaction.
How to process and interpret diagnostic data,
turning raw measurements into meaningful physiological profiles that allow causal interpretation rather than only descriptive reporting.
How to define training zones based on physiological profiles,
where each zone is anchored to the physiological system and its metric you want to adapt by training — rather than extrapolated from a single threshold value.
By Sunday evening, you’ll have personally conducted tests, analyzed results, and gained the confidence to offer metabolic testing services.
PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Day 1
Morning
- A practice-oriented understanding of muscular energy metabolism, including glycolysis, aerobic metabolism, MLSS, fat and carbohydrate oxidation, buffering capacity, and movement economy — taught strictly from a performance-relevant perspective.
- Understanding how metabolic systems interact to create performance, with eye-opening connections between glycolysis and fat metabolism, lactate and VOâ‚‚, aerobic and anaerobic contribution, and their combined effect on performance outcomes.
Afternoon
- Performance diagnostics in practice, including hands-on experience with lactate testing, body composition assessment, and VOâ‚‚ measurement, and learning which data are required to make physiological interaction visible.
Evening
- Fireside chat on advanced diagnostics, focusing on specific testing approaches for VLamax and VOâ‚‚max, and how these metrics fit into the broader metabolic context.
Day 2
Morning
- From data to physiological profiles, learning how to process and interpret diagnostic data to move from raw measurements to causal, physiologically meaningful insight.
- Exploring different physiological performance profiles, by interactively building and analyzing real-world scenarios (e.g. glycolytically dominant vs. aerobically dominant athletes) using interactive physiological avatars.
Afternoon
- Defining training zones from physiology, where each training zone is anchored to the physiological system and master metric you want to adapt — rather than extrapolated from a single threshold value.
Wrap-Up
- Receive your certificate of participation and connect with fellow professionals in the field.
2 days. 20 seats. Transform how you understand and use lactate testing.
Who should attend - and why
If you are less interested in collecting more data — and more interested in understanding what the data means for performance and training — this workshop is for you.
- Performance Coaches who want to move beyond interpreting isolated metrics and learn how to diagnose what actually limits performance in a physiological, causal way.
- Human Performance lab operators who feel that current diagnostics describe values well, but do not sufficiently explain performance outcomes or guide training priorities.
- Practitioners involved in performance testing who want to understand why similar test results can require very different training approaches depending on the underlying physiological profile.
- Anyone dissatisfied with generic training zones and heuristics and looking for a physiology-based framework to define training focus, intensity distribution, and adaptation targets.
Important Note: This workshop focuses on exercise metabolism, testing, and metabolic profiling — the foundation needed to understand what the data means.
If your interest is more focused on creating physiology-based training programs, where insights gained from testing are applied to designing training programs, specific workouts, and nutrition strategies, the 4-day Coaching Education Camp is the better fit for you.
